Description

2021 sees the 14th running of the Scunthorpe Summer Championship. Although there are four rounds riders can compete in as few or as many rounds as they want. The first three round dates are Saturday 24th July, Sunday 15th August, Sunday 12th September whilst the last round is split over two days – Saturday 16th October (Support, Upright, Y250, Y125/150 Open Class & Y125/150 Support classes) and Sunday 17th October (Open, Novice, Y500 & 160cc classes).

CLASSES

These are now split over two meetings except during high summer due to high entry numbers. In total there are six adult speedway classes (Open, Support and Novice based on ability plus two ability related classes for upright engines and one for speedway bikes with no more than a 160cc engine).

In addition, there are four youth speedway classes (500cc, 250cc plus two for 125cc and 150cc engines split based on ability). With regards the Upright Support Class and the Youth 125/150 Support Class riders should not be quicker than 75 seconds for four laps or they will have to move up into the higher classes.

RESERVATIONS AND COSTS

No membership is required at Scunthorpe and meeting costs are £42 for all adult classes and £32 for the youth classes. Any rider who runs in more than one class on the same day will need to pay an additional £10.50 for the extra class.

Bookings can be made for the next meeting in the series by texting me (Richard Hollingsworth – 07832-402167) but full payment (by Paypal or card) is due at least 24 hours in advance at scunthorpe-speedway.com/bookingoffice.

PLEASE NOTE SIMPLY ADDING YOURSELF TO THE ATTENDEES LIST IS NOT ENOUGH. It is also worth double-checking you are on the list of riders when they are published in the facebook group in the lead up to the meeting.

EXTRAS

We will have a spares van in attendance (text Darren Miles on 07563-500409 if you have any enquiries), the food van will be open, and we will have a paramedic in attendance.

SIGNING-ON

This is 9.30-10.30am on race day. Gates will be open by 9am latest, Racing from 11am until (hopefully) between 3pm and 4pm

SPECTATING/VOLUNTEERING

It is possible to spectate at these meetings, but we ask that you stay out of the pits and in the spectating areas. Admission is free but we appreciate if people buy food and drink from our food van. The meetings are a fantastic contribution to the development of British riders and also ensure we have income to run the stadium and Championship-level Scorpions side. It is also possible to get involved with meetings by helping out in a variety of ways. Please text Richard on 0832-402167 if you would like to get involved.

MEETING FORMAT

The meeting will programme five rides for everyone, including at least one final (i.e. The winner of the 'E' Final will advance to the 'D' Final and then the winner of the 'D' Final will advance to the 'C' Final etc. etc.). There are trophies for the top three in each class and there are Summer Championship trophies for the top regular attendees at the end of the series.

SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIP RULES

One completed round can always be dropped so if every round took place then a riders top three rounds would count but if a round is victim of the weather then a rider's top two rounds will count. To be eligible for Winter Series trophies a rider must have raced in at least 51% of the completed rounds.

Summer Championship points will be scored in the following manner: 20 points for 1st, 19 for 2nd etc down to 1 point for 20th (although that would be increased for all rounds if we had more than 20 riders for a class on one day). Any ties at the end of the series are decided on the results between the tied riders for the meetings when both competed and then on countback (how many first, then how many seconds etc.). In individual meetings the fastest winning time can also be used to split riders.

BIKE/RIDER REQUIREMENTS

Riders do not need 'new' regulation silencers, mudguards etc. and can ride on day licenses (with no additional charge). Helmet colours are required but can be borrowed/purchased (please give advance notice and leave a deposit equal to the cost of replacements) whilst dirt deflectors are required in the Open, Support, Youth 500 and Youth 250 classes.
