You never know what you'll find in an old barn.
But in the Midwest, it's not unusual to find a stash of old automobiles. It's a popular place for collectors to hide their finds.
Such was the case for Jeff Begg. The late Marshall, Michigan, businessman hoarded vintage cars, motorcycles and parts at a rate nobody in his family suspected. After Begg, owner of machine parts manufacturer Marshall-Excelsior Corp., died at age 73, he left behind buildings stuffed with auto rarities — much of it purchased on eBay.
Now it's going back to auction June 15 in a one-day sale by VanDerBrink Auctions in Springfield, Michigan.
Begg particularly loved British motorcycles. In fact, he named his company after Excelsior Henderson motorcycles. The collection is heavily stocked with British bikes, 63 in all, including a rare 1952 Vincent Series C Rapide motorcycle.
Also up for sale are:
- 38 midget racing cars, including a 1947 Kurtis Kraft, the Locard Badger II, and more.
- Rare racing parts for vintage cars, including many Ford FH 4 cylinder and V8 motor parts including for 60hp FH V8s.
- Rare Riley Carbs and OHV Conversions for Ford 4 cylinders are everywhere. Offenhauser, Edelbrock, Rook, Eddie Meyer, and more wonderful motors and parts.
- 70 collector vehicles, from a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible to a 1936 Ford 3 window Coupe, which Begg would take to car shows.
- Import cars, including 2 Marcos, TRV’s, Maserati, and more.
- Several 1936 Pierce Arrows.
Bidding will be both on-site and online and there is no reserve.
