French custom builder Greg Loaec has transformed Suzuki's V-Strom 650 into a dirt-ready adventure bike, dubbed the Dark EVO 2. The package includes a custom 21/18 spoked wheelset, improved suspension, durable damage protection, and sleek black-on-black aesthetics. Trail Découverte Concept, Loaec's company, intends to sell the Dark EVO 2 as a DIY kit.
Loaec has previously created customized versions of the V-Strom, including the V-Strom 1050 Dark Rally and the V-Strom 650 XT EVO 1. The Dark EVO 2 builds on the base V-Strom 650, featuring a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheelset with Metzeler Karoo Extreme knobbies, a custom cartridge kit for the fork, and a fully-adjustable EMC Suspensions Europe rear shock.
The bike also features an Oval Black Stainless Steel slip-on exhaust from Storm Racing Parts, SW-Motech Aluminum Engine Guard skid plate, engine and hand guards, EVO adjustable footpegs, an adjustable folding gear shift lever, a Suzuki Factory ProTaper handlebar, a minimal rally-style seat, and a lightweight lithium-ion battery. The stock windscreen has been replaced with a custom dark-tinted fly screen.
Trail Découverte Concept plans to sell the Dark EVO 2 DIY bolt-on kit for around $4,420. However, availability and parts may change, and the modifications may only appeal to those who already own a V-Strom 650. For those looking for a new off-road adventure bike, the 2022 Yamaha T7, which is already well-equipped and lighter than the V-Strom, may be a better option. Nonetheless, the Dark EVO 2 and other adventure-oriented custom kits offer more options for riders looking for a unique and high-performing ride.
