Wayders is made up of friends Olivier Nadrin and Didier Hermann, with Didier being the technical mastermind and Olivier specializing in photography and videography. The two met while customizing their personal bikes and later founded Wayders. Earlier this year, they took things up a notch by opening a new 1,900 square-foot workshop that includes everything from heavy tools to a photo studio. The Yamaha MT-07 is the first custom built in the new space, purely to showcase the company's capabilities.
The MT-07 is in the top three of the most sold bikes in Europe, and Wayders chose it as a donor because of its affordable price and unique frame. The team started by upgrading the front suspension by fitting a set of 41 mm upside-down forks borrowed from the MT-07's bigger sibling, the MT-09, along with the MT-09 yokes. They also installed adjustable clip-ons, which came with Brembo brake and clutch controls, and new Ariete grips and Motogadget bar-end turn signals.
At the back, Wayders fitted a new Wilbers shock to complement the upgraded front suspension, while retaining the stock brakes since they can handle the MT-07's 74.8 hp output and relatively low curb weight. The team kept the 17” alloy wheels but switched to chunky Pirelli Rally STR tires, with a possible move to racier rubber in the future.
To achieve a unique look, Wayders removed the MT-07's stock plastics and subframe, giving the bike a refined silhouette that combines classic café racer lines with the modern vibe of the 689 cc parallel-twin engine. They sourced a replica Benelli Mojave fuel tank, modified it to fit the MT-07's quirky frame, and repurposed the original fuel cap up top. Couleurs Ardentes executed the livery, which was inspired by one of Bell's carbon fiber Bullitt helmet designs and features a ghosted checkered flag motif applied using a hydro-dipping technique.
The bike's finishing touches include milled aluminum tank badges, gold striping to match the suspension components, and a new all-black SC Project exhaust muffler. A custom seat sits on top of an all-new subframe designed to match the rest of the Yamaha's frame, with upholstery by Atelier Sellerie & Garnissage. The seat is secured by sliding the front under the edge of the fuel tank and snapping the back in place with a magnet, revealing a 3D-printed tray with a handmade leather wallet from Trip Machine Company. Other 3D-printed parts include the radiator shrouds, sprocket cover, and chain guard. Wayders also installed an LED headlight on custom-made brackets, rear-sets with custom-milled foot pegs, and a new rear brake master cylinder.
Olivier and Didier are days away from showcasing their MT-07 at the Wheels and Waves festival, and it's highly likely they'll come back with a full order book.
