The popularity of the SR400 has steadily increased over time, despite minimal evolution in the nameplate. While the manufacturer added fuel injection, the bike remains as bare-bones as ever, lacking an electric starter which Yamaha advertises as a feature. However, the simplicity of the single-cylinder bike has made it a popular choice for customization.
Berry Bads Motorcycle, a Japanese firm known for their bespoke creations, took on the SR400 and transformed it into a work of art. The team, led by Kyohey Sugimoto, started by replacing the stock suspension with 35 mm Ceriani forks and higher-spec YSS shock absorbers. They also replaced the original wheels with seven-spoke Wise Gear alternatives and rebuilt the brakes using high-quality aftermarket components. The rear swingarm was taken from a Ducati and repurposed for this project.
The powertrain received upgrades in the form of an FCR carburetor and a handmade exhaust system. The bike's exterior was given a complete overhaul, featuring a new aluminum fuel tank, bolt-on tail section, and a full fairing reminiscent of a retro Yamaha TZ. The cockpit boasts Motogadget accessories and clip-on handlebars, with rear-mounted foot pegs rounding out the design.
Overall, Berry Bads Motorcycle's take on the SR400 showcases their talent and expertise, resulting in a stunningly beautiful custom bike.
