The base model 790 Adventure was reintroduced by Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM in 2023 as an affordable alternative to the big-bore 790 Adventure R. However, KTM has partnered with CFMoto to revive the up-spec version of the adventure bike.

According to Chinese type-approval documents, the KTM-CFMoto partnership plans to bring back the 790 Adventure R with new chassis and styling changes. The prototype image in the documents reveals that the off-road-oriented variant will have robust 48mm WP XPLOR suspension, an elevated front fender, and semi-knobby tires.

The filings do not specify the bike's performance figures, but the R version is expected to retain the standard model's 94 horsepower and 87Nm of torque. The project looks like it's still in progress, as it is missing a windshield and has a KTMR2R sticker on its front panel.

The 790 Adventure R is predicted to differentiate itself from the base model 790 Adventure and the 890 Adventure R with its off-road-oriented features. Based on the previous iteration of the 790 Adventure R and the current 890 Adventure R, adventure riders can expect a sturdy and capable machine.

KTM's collaboration with CFMoto for production could also make the revived ADV more accessible to adventure riders. The Chinese manufacturer's expertise in production and cost-effective processes may help keep the price competitive.

Overall, the return of the 790 Adventure R is thrilling news for adventure enthusiasts looking for a more cost-effective, off-road-capable motorcycle. While we wait for an official reveal from KTM, the type-approval documents provide a tantalizing peek at what the revived model might have in store.
