BMW Motorrad has recently announced the world’s first facial and iris recognition technology for motorcycles, called the BMW iFace. The system combines 3D face scanning and infrared iris recognition to create a unique model of the rider’s face, eyes, and head.
This personalized scan is then used to authenticate the owner when mounting the motorcycle. If an unauthorized individual attempts to drive off with the bike, the system will scan their face and iris, and send their location to the authorities once the authentication fails. This innovative technology is the latest addition to the industry-wide pursuit for simplification and enhanced security, and could potentially have significant implications in the Philippine setting and beyond.
