The Honda GL1000 Gold Wing, known for its long-distance riding capabilities, may not seem like an ideal candidate for a custom makeover due to its bulky anatomy. However, Sur Les Chapeaux De Roues (SLCDR), a French custom bike shop, proved otherwise with their mesmerizing 1976 GL1000-based creation.
Manuel and Yann of SLCDR embarked on a challenging refurbishment of the Gold Wing's liquid-cooled 999cc flat-four engine, which was partially painted red and now features handmade four-into-one exhaust pipework made of stainless steel that runs into a SuperTrapp muffler. The French shop also shortened and looped the Gold Wing's rear end, reworked the front section to fit the repurposed gas tank of a BMW airhead, and built a new airbox, among other modifications.
The custom Honda GL1000 Gold Wing features Hagon shock absorbers, lowered and sleeved original forks, and retro-looking SHR 270 tires from Shinko's catalog. Its front end has a low-rise handlebar and an aftermarket headlight. However, the standout feature of this bike is the multi-colored mosaic livery on its gas tank, which is hard not to fall in love with. The workshop's logo decal and flush-mounted, pop-up filler cap add to the bike's clean and eye-catching appearance, with a Motogadget speedometer mounted on the tank completing the picture.
