The Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 is a fun, neo-retro motorcycle that has caught the attention of custom workshops worldwide. Purpose Built Moto (PBM) in Queensland, Australia, is one of the latest to take on the challenge, and their creation is a unique street tracker that was given away as a prize in an online contest.
PBM's transformation of the Vitpilen 401 is simple but effective. They focused on improving the bike's ergonomics by adding custom risers and a motocross-style handlebar from Renthal. The foot pegs were also repositioned for better control. PBM then turned to the lighting, replacing the front and rear turn signals with LED units from their own aftermarket catalog. The taillight was replaced with a handmade alternative, and the license plate holder was removed and replaced with a minimalistic substitute.
To improve airflow and throttle response, PBM added a Stage 2 intake kit from DNA Filters and created a stainless-steel exhaust system from scratch. The exhaust pipes lead to a tailor-made silencer on the right-hand side of the tail. The saddle was also reshaped and wrapped in grippy MX-style fabric.
The street tracker's superb livery, executed by Josh Farrell from Ride Design Co., blends gray and blue graphics over a white base. Although not as wild as some custom Vitpilen builds, PBM's creation certainly turns heads.
