In celebration of Star Wars Day, we pay homage to the iconic film series by uncovering the motorcycle enthusiasts among the talented actors who brought the beloved characters to life. While motorcycles may only exist as speeder bikes in the far, far away galaxy, some of the stars have a deep passion for two-wheeled machines here on Earth. Join us as we explore five Star Wars actors who share a love for motorcycles.
Ewan McGregor – Obi-Wan Kenobi
Recognized as one of the most well-known motorcyclists in the Star Wars universe, McGregor gained fame portraying the legendary Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel series. His Star Wars stardom led him to embark on a round-the-world motorcycle adventure alongside his friend Charley Boorman, which captivated audiences in the television series Long Way Round. McGregor has continued his two-wheeled journeys in subsequent Long Way installments and currently serves as a Moto Guzzi ambassador.
Hayden Christensen – Anakin Skywalker
The actor who portrayed Anakin Skywalker and his infamous alter-ego Darth Vader in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith shares a fascination with motorcycles. In a recent interview with McGregor, Christensen reminisced about their first ride together and confessed his preference for dirt bikes, stating, "I don't really like motorbikes, but I love dirt bikes."
Temuera Morrison – Jango Fett
Though his name may not be instantly recognizable to casual Star Wars fans, Morrison's character, Jango Fett, holds significant importance in the series. He not only portrayed the masked bounty hunter in Attack of the Clones but also starred as the army of clones created from Jango's DNA. Prior to his Star Wars fame, the New Zealand actor gained prominence through his role in the iconic Kiwi gangster film, Once Were Warriors. Morrison once purchased a Harley-Davidson to emulate his uncles' passion, but unfortunately, he suffered a broken leg in a crash back in 2003.
Harrison Ford – Han Solo
A legendary figure in the entertainment industry, Harrison Ford requires no introduction. His portrayal of Han Solo propelled him to great heights and paved the way for acclaimed roles in Indiana Jones, Blade Runner, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and many more. While Ford's aviation pursuits are well-known, he also indulges in motorcycling as a hobby. His collection includes a BMW R 1200 GS and a 1993 Triumph Daytona 1200.
Liam Neeson – Qui-Gon Jinn
Hailing from Ireland, Neeson graced the Star Wars universe in The Phantom Menace. His impressive filmography includes notable works such as Schindler's List, Michael Collins, Gangs of New York, Love Actually, and more. Though motorcycling remains a personal affair for Neeson, he did recount a memorable incident involving a collision with a deer while riding his Harley-Davidson during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2015.
On this Star Wars Day, we celebrate the diverse passions of the actors who brought the galaxy far, far away to life, both on-screen and off. Their love for motorcycles adds another layer to their fascinating journeys, reminding us that even in the midst of epic adventures, the thrill of the open road still calls. May the force be with these riders as they continue to explore new horizons on two wheels.
