Xinyuan, the Chinese motorcycle brand, has introduced an exciting new model called the Tornado 520, priced at approximately 7,000 EUR. This motorcycle is based on the Shineray XY 500B-C model, but what sets it apart is its engine. In the past, Shineray used older, air-cooled single-cylinder engines from Japan that were larger than 250cc.
This time, they have opted for a new liquid-cooled twin engine with a displacement of 494cc, delivering 37 pound-feet of torque at 7,500 rpm and 54 horsepower at 8,500 rpm. Interestingly, the engine specifications and design seem to draw inspiration from Honda's 471cc twin engines, complete with six gears, including a reverse gear. Shineray claims that the Tornado 520 can achieve speeds of up to 110 kilometers per hour (68 miles per hour).
The Tornado 520 boasts a classic look, featuring a sidecar attached to a tubular steel frame. The sidecar design is reminiscent of those seen in the 1930s and 1940s, giving the motorcycle a distinct and unique appearance. Despite its rugged aesthetics, the Tornado 520 is better suited for light trails and may face challenges on more demanding terrains. Notably, the bike offers cross-spoke rims as an option, allowing for the use of tubeless tires.
One notable improvement resulting from the new engine and chassis is the increased fuel capacity. Compared to the current Mash Side Force and Black Side models, the Tornado 520 features an additional five liters of tank volume, totaling 4.76 gallons. This translates to an impressive estimated range of approximately 248 miles, assuming a consumption rate of 52 miles per gallon. Unfortunately, there is no available information regarding the weight of the Tornado 520 compared to the 295-kilogram (650-pound) Mash Side Force.
In terms of pricing, in China, the Tornado 520 is available in three colors: Flash Black, Arctic Gray, and Jazz White. The starting price is 53,800 CNY, which is approximately $7,623 USD. While it remains uncertain whether the Tornado 520 will eventually become the Mash Side Force, it seems to be a plausible outcome should Shineray grant Mash their approval.
To summarize, a retro-inspired three-wheeler has emerged in China, bearing a striking resemblance to the current Mash Side Force while introducing a new engine to replace the previous air-cooled single-cylinder. This upgrade nearly doubles the horsepower of the Mash Side Force, from 29 to 54 horsepower. Although Europe has yet to witness the arrival of this model, speculation suggests a high likelihood of its introduction.
