Exciting news for motorcycle enthusiasts in the US and Canada as Honda confirms the arrival of the CL500 scrambler under a new name: the SCL500. Last month, government paperwork hinted at its release in the US, and now it has been officially confirmed for both countries.
The SCL500 shares most of its features with the machine that was initially unveiled at EICMA. It embraces environmental responsibility with a range of recycled ideas. Powering the scrambler is a 471cc liquid-cooled parallel twin engine, also found in the CBR500 and Rebel 500 models, albeit retuned for the scrambler application. Expect a power delivery similar to the Rebel, focusing on low-to-mid-range torque. The bike comes with an assist/slipper clutch and a six-speed gearbox, delivering a claimed 45 hp and 32 lb-ft of torque.
The steel tube frame closely resembles the one on the Rebel, offering a comfortable 31.1-inch seat height. Following the scrambler tradition, the SCL500 features basic dual coilover shocks with five-way adjustability and 5.9 inches of travel. The non-adjustable fork provides 5.7 inches of travel. Sporting a 19-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, the bike weighs in at a claimed curb weight of 423 lb.
In terms of features, the SCL500 opts for an LCD dash instead of TFT gauges to keep costs down. All-round LED lighting and ABS are standard. Retro design elements include a high-mount exhaust, rubber knee pads on the tank, and fork gaiters, providing the machine with a nostalgic appeal.
As for pricing, the SCL500 offers an affordable option for riders. In the US, the suggested MSRP starts at $6,799, with an additional $600 for freight/destination charges. Canadian riders can expect a price tag of $9,100, including $899 for freight, PDI, and other fees.
American buyers have the choice between green or orange paint, while Canadians are limited to the green option. For more information, visit Honda's official websites for the US and Canada. Get ready to hit the trails with the stylish and affordable SCL500 scrambler from Honda.
