In the realm of custom Harley-Davidson motorcycles, enthusiasts are often treated to reimagined versions of popular models like the Fat Boy and Breakout. However, the true gems are the rare occasions when we come across a classic custom that captures the essence of old-school craftsmanship. Thankfully, one such marvel has emerged from an esteemed German garage, captivating our attention.
While many of us were in our infancy when Harley-Davidson bid farewell to the iconic Shovelhead engine, its legacy continues to leave an indelible mark. Customized motorcycles powered by this legendary engine never cease to impress, and the spotlight now shines on a captivating specimen.
Enter Thunderbike, the renowned German-based custom shop known for its regular production of modern Harley-Davidsons and occasional releases of full customs built on their own frames. However, the Harley-Davidson Pauki breaks the mold. Acquired by Thunderbike's head honcho, Andreas Bergerforth, from a local collector, this 1984 Shovelhead is now a cherished addition to the shop's fleet, providing endless joy rides for the crew.
Built in the mid-1980s by the esteemed German custom legend Reinhold Paukner, fondly known as Pauki, the exact details of this remarkable creation are shrouded in mystery. Even Thunderbike admits that "there's a lot about the bike that's impossible to research." What we do know is that it features a high frame housing the venerable Shovelhead engine, complemented by wire wheels and a beautifully embellished western-style seat.
The classic flames adorning the fuel tank exude an authentic old-school aesthetic, harmoniously accentuated by carefully placed chrome and brass elements, including the exhaust. Thunderbike is adamant that this motorcycle will remain untouched, with no modifications planned apart from necessary maintenance. Although the shop typically adorns their rides with the distinctive Thunderbike line, the Pauki will retain its original charm.
As a one-of-a-kind piece of German custom motorcycle history, the true value of the Harley-Davidson Pauki is impossible to ascertain, given its status as an irreplaceable gem. Thunderbike has not disclosed the acquisition cost from the German collector, as this bike is not intended for sale.
Some treasures are best appreciated with a touch of enigma, and the Harley-Davidson Pauki unquestionably encapsulates that mystique, capturing the hearts of custom motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide.
