Yamaha USA has issued a recall for certain Tenere 700 motorcycles due to a front brake caliper problem. Approximately 211 units from the 2022 model year are affected by this recall. The front brake caliper may have been assembled with bolts of incorrect thread length, which could damage the mounting hole threads over time. In the worst-case scenario, the bolts may fail to hold the caliper, resulting in a loss of braking function and increasing the risk of a crash.
Owners should be alert for warning signs such as unusual sounds or sensations from the front brake, as well as difficulty removing or reinstalling caliper bolts after servicing. Yamaha advises affected owners not to operate their motorcycles, except to take them to a dealer for repair.
Yamaha will conduct a Factory Modification Campaign to fix the issue at no cost to customers. Dealers will inspect the front brake caliper mounting bolts and replace them if necessary. Damaged caliper mounting-hole threads will also require caliper replacement.
Dealers will be notified between July 20, 2023, and July 24, 2023, and owners will receive notification around the same dates. Customers can contact Yamaha's customer service at 1-800-962-7926 for further assistance. The recall number for this issue is 990168.
Affected owners can also reach out to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov, referencing recall number 23V-472 or 23V472000.
