Vintage vehicles hold a special place in the hearts of collectors and enthusiasts, but as time goes by, finding parts and skilled mechanics for these old machines becomes increasingly challenging. However, Historic Harley-Davidson in Topeka, Kansas, is defying the odds.
As one of the few authorized dealers in the U.S. capable of working on such ancient bikes, Historic Harley-Davidson recently took on a remarkable project - a 1916 J Model, the oldest that technician David Larson has ever worked on in his 30-year career.
The owner brought the rolling chassis with a motor that needed some attention. Larson spent 45 hours researching the bike's history and sourcing the necessary parts to restore it to perfection. The owner wanted it to retain its vintage charm, and Larson ensured just that.
Working on antique bikes brings joy to Larson, thanks to their simplicity and elegance. At Historic Harley-Davidson, owned by Mike Patterson, who comes from a family with 70 years of experience, restoring old Harleys is a way of celebrating the brand's rich legacy and preserving it for future generations.
For Patterson and his team, if it bears the name "Harley-Davidson," they are more than willing to bring it back to life. Their expertise has attracted vintage motorcycle owners from all over the country, establishing them as a premier Harley-Davidson dealership specializing in working on these timeless beauties.
