In a recent sighting that has ignited the excitement of motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide, the much-anticipated KTM RC 990 prototype was spotted undergoing street testing in Europe. Set to share the same LC8c engine as its counterpart, the KTM 990 Duke Prototype, the RC 990 promises to be a high-performance machine with thrilling capabilities.
The spy photos reveal the RC 990 adorned with stylish and aerodynamic fairings, reminiscent of KTM's successful fully faired sportbikes like the RC8 and RC8 C, along with the prestigious RC16 MotoGP machine. The design points to an aggressive riding position, distinguishing it from the 990 Duke Prototype.
Comparing the images of both prototypes, it becomes evident that they share a common swingarm and an exhaust canister that ends in a unique rounded-square shape near the tip. However, slight variations in the appearance of Brembo Stylema calipers hint at potential developments in the braking department.
As for its power capabilities, speculation suggests that the RC 990 may churn out over 140 horsepower, though torque figures remain undisclosed. The headlight design is somewhat concealed in this prototype, indicating further developments to come.
Despite the excitement surrounding these spy photos, it's important to temper expectations. The expected production release of the KTM RC 990 is projected to be sometime in 2025, as the current development progress is still ongoing. Until then, enthusiasts must patiently await the official unveiling of this highly anticipated sports bike. With 2023 drawing to a close, the world inches closer to the thrilling possibilities that 2024 and beyond hold for the motorcycling community.
