BMW Motorrad is breaking new ground with its 2023 Customizing Championship, proving that custom bike building has officially entered the mainstream. The competition revolves around the idea of turning BMW models like the R nineT and R 18 into blank canvases for customizers to express their creativity. With 150 dealers from 18 countries already onboard, the event promises to be a global celebration of innovation and design.

Open to all BMW Motorrad dealers worldwide, the challenge has seen participation from numerous countries, including South Africa, where two exceptional dealers, Umhlanga and Bavarian Motorcycles in Centurion, have accepted the call. Each country can have two representatives in the final event, and Bavarian Motorcycles has secured its spot with an awe-inspiring entry named "African Sky."

The rules of the competition are straightforward: participants must design, create, and build a custom BMW R 18, and then submit photos and videos to BMW headquarters in Berlin by August 21st, 2023. A panel of internationally renowned custom builders will select the six best custom R 18s, and the public will have a say in choosing the seventh finalist through a voting process. These seven custom bikes will make their way to Berlin for the grand finale on September 27-29.

Bavarian Motorcycles' "African Sky" entry, crafted by Grant, Dominic, Lenny, and Gerhard, showcases impeccable workmanship and design. The team's commitment to supporting local talent is evident, as they collaborated with Centurion community businesses like Italian Motor Trimmers & Upholstery, Coating Graphics Centurion, Vykon Performance Exhausts, and 300 Plus, to source parts for the build.

The BMW Motorrad Customizing Championship is more than just a competition; it offers dealers and enthusiasts an opportunity to unleash their creativity in a freestyle format. Participants can customize their motorcycles using unique designs and ideas, as well as a wide range of high-quality parts and accessories offered by BMW Motorrad.
