Yamaha's iconic TW200 dual sport bike continues its journey with unwavering reliability into the 2024 lineup. The bike maintains its unchanged form for yet another year, staying true to its roots. A mainstay in Yamaha's collection, this approachable dual sport machine is set to retain its timeless retro charm well into the foreseeable future.
As we highlighted in our recent assessment of the 2023 variant, the TW200 has remained untouched since its 2001 revision, which introduced a disc brake and electric start. Surprisingly, this lack of alteration over the years has only heightened its appeal. This enduring design lends an authentic aura of nostalgia both in its appearance and mechanical layout.
The 196cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine emanates a distinct character at higher RPMs, while the bike's cable-operated five-speed transmission offers a direct and uncomplicated shifting experience reminiscent of vintage motorcycles. Its telescopic fork and coil-spring shock absorber adequately handle uneven surfaces, further assisted by the stout 18-inch and 14-inch Bridgestone tires. While the braking system, comprising a front disc and rear drum, might not be groundbreaking, it reliably brings the dual sport bike to a halt.
Aesthetic-wise, the design proudly embraces a retro vibe, highlighted by fork gaiters and a square headlight, which take center stage. Modern LED components are conspicuously absent, maintaining the vintage aura throughout.
Beyond its visual features, this bike caters particularly well to beginners. With a relatively low seat height of 31.1 inches and a manageable curb weight of 278 pounds, it offers an accessible riding experience. Its versatility extends to both on-road and off-road adventures, contributing to its value retention—a key factor for riders planning to upgrade once they've honed their skills.
However, the price for the 2024 model has seen a modest increase compared to the previous year, now standing at $4,999, marking a $100 uptick.
Under the hood, the 196cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine stands out for its reliability and user-friendly operation.
Perfectly suited for novices, the TW200 provides a balanced blend of on- and off-road capabilities.
Having captured riders' hearts for years, this user-friendly dual sport bike remains a consistent favorite among enthusiasts.
