The highly-anticipated debut of the 2024 BMW F 900 GS is scheduled for September 7th, generating considerable buzz in the motorcycling community. BMW has been building anticipation with enigmatic teasers on various social media platforms, featuring a motorcycle cloaked in dirt and accompanied by the hashtag #spiritofgs. Through careful analysis, we've managed to decipher these teasers, confirming the presence of the "F 900" designation beneath the iconic BMW roundel.
The current F 850 GS and F 750 GS models are powered by an 853cc Twin engine. Interestingly, the associated web pages have mysteriously gone offline, suggesting significant changes on the horizon. Our investigation leads us to believe that the forthcoming F 900 GS will likely adopt the more potent 895cc engine introduced in the 2020 F 900 R and F 900 XR models. This move appears to be BMW's strategic response to the stringent Euro 5+ regulations set to take effect in 2024, encompassing onboard diagnostics, durability testing, and noise limits.
Should the F 900 GS indeed inherit the 895cc engine, we can anticipate a powerplant better suited for off-road adventures. For context, the 2020 F 900 models boast impressive figures, with claimed outputs of 103hp at 8,500 rpm and 92Nm at 6,500 rpm. In contrast, the F 850 GS and its Adventure variant offer slightly lower numbers at 94 hp at 8,250 rpm and 92Nm at 6,250 rpm. Considering these statistics, the transition to a more robust engine is a welcomed advancement.
The changes introduced in the F 900 GS may also have an impact on the F 900 R and XR models in 2025. Nevertheless, it's worth noting that by 2024, the F 900 R's engine will be four years old, suggesting the possibility of even more extensive updates in the pipeline.
All eyes are now firmly fixed on September 7th when BMW is poised to unveil its latest middleweight GS models, promising an exciting new chapter in the world of adventure motorcycling.
