Remember that intriguing tidbit we heard back in June, suggesting the possibility of a fully-faired version of the GSX-8S, which made its debut at EICMA? Well, we now have more substantial evidence, courtesy of Dennis Chung at Motorcycle.com, indicating that Suzuki is indeed working on the GSX-8R. This time, the proof comes from Swiss certification data.

According to Chung's report, the data mentions a "GSX800 (8R)," with the parentheses clearly indicating the existence of a sportier sibling in development.

Here's what we currently know about Suzuki's upcoming GSX-8R:

  • Shared Engine: The GSX-8R will share the same engine as the GSX-8S, featuring a parallel-twin engine rated at 776cc, producing 82hp at 8,500rpm and 78 Nm (57.5 lb-ft.) of torque at 6,800rpm.
  • Increased Top Speed: Expect a higher top speed, as the certification data suggests an additional 5kph, reaching 215 kph (134 mph).
  • A2-Friendly Variant: Following the GSX-8R, there will be an A2-friendly variant referred to as "GSX800U 8R" in the documents.
  • Chassis: The GSX-8R will retain the same chassis dimensions (wheelbase and length) as the GSX-8S but will be slightly wider by 0.2 inches.
  • Wet Weight: Anticipate a slightly higher wet weight for the GSX-8R, as certification data indicates an equivalent of 452 lbs, compared to the 445 lbs of the 8S.

Given the hints we've already received, we can assume that the GSX-8R will make its official appearance at this year's edition of the World's Biggest Motorcycle Expo, EICMA, scheduled for November.
