If you cast a sidelong glance at the motorcycle presented here, you might mistake it for a Harley-Davidson Pan America with a peculiar twist. However, the truth is quite different – this is, in fact, a transformation of the Low Rider ST into a club-style masterpiece, skillfully crafted by the German custom experts at Thunderbike, aptly named the Black Rush. The reasoning behind this name becomes evident the moment your eyes lock onto the bike.
Apart from the turn signals, select braking components, and a few branding accents, virtually every facet of this motorcycle is steeped in a profound obsidian hue.
But you might wonder if this is one of the color options already available for the Low Rider ST in Europe and elsewhere? While that's true, it retains its originality and is preserved in this form because the bike's owner specifically requested that the entire build remain "all black."
From a technical standpoint, the darkness enveloping this two-wheeler doesn't obscure the fact that most of its original elements are still intact. There's not much to marvel at in terms of structural changes, with one striking exception – the wheels.
The stock Low Rider ST arrives with a 19-inch front wheel and a notably smaller 16-inch rear wheel. These components have been completely supplanted in the Black Rush, replaced by larger wheels that fundamentally transform its visual appeal: a commanding 21-inch front wheel anchored firmly by the front fork and an 18-inch rear wheel. Both sport multi-spoke designs, with the rear wheel boasting a wider 200mm profile, up from its original 180mm.
Under the hood, the motorcycle retains the same Milwaukee-Eight engine straight from the factory, enhanced only by the addition of a Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhaust system.
Remarkably, Thunderbike's modifications to the Low Rider involve just 19 additional parts, a departure from their usual extensive customizations.
While the precise cost of this transformation remains undisclosed, a rough estimate is not hard to derive. The 2023 edition of the base Low Rider ST retails for $22,199. Thunderbike's selection of parts for the Black Rush, excluding the exhaust system, tallies around $7,000, bringing the total cost of this remarkable build to approximately $30,000.
