Introducing the Harley-Davidson Roadster 1200R, a unique iteration of the timeless Sportster lineage, enhanced to elevate its performance capabilities.
The Sportster, renowned as the most enduring branch of the Harley-Davidson family tree and one of the world's longest-standing motorcycle series in continuous production, has etched its legacy over 71 uninterrupted years. This iconic series, initially sparked in 1952 with the Harley-Davidson Model K Sport and Model K Solo, evolved significantly over the decades, consistently captivating enthusiasts with its lighter weight and improved performance, even by Harley standards. The Roadster model emerged to further enhance this cherished tradition.
Key Highlights - The Harley-Davidson Roadster 1200R: The Harley-Davidson Sportster's roots trace back to 1957, a response to the popular British sports motorcycles dominating the high-performance scene. As the Sportster lineage evolved, its core elements remained constant: an air-cooled V-twin engine nestled within a tubular steel frame, delivering a weight advantage over most Harleys while still retaining substantial heft by global standards.
The Roadster, a distinguished variant of the Sportster, spanned several generations, typically featuring twin front disc brakes (in contrast to the standard Sportster's single disc), a high-performance engine, a tachometer, and various minor enhancements. Today, these Roadsters command a premium over their standard Sportster counterparts.
The motorcycle on display here is a 2005 Harley-Davidson Roadster 1200R, representing the apex of Sportster performance. It has undergone discreet modifications, including LED lighting, lowered suspension, an extended swingarm, and distinctive twisted-spoke wire wheels. Additionally, aftermarket hand and foot controls, alongside a selection of components from Joker Machine and Roland Sands Design (RSD), further elevate its uniqueness.
Painted in striking Vivid Black with ivory accents and adorned with red pinstripes, this Roadster boasts black fork lowers and fender struts, complemented by a flat gray chin spoiler. The pièce de résistance is the two-into-one RSD Tracker exhaust system, featuring a chrome tip and perforated heat shields.
While maintaining its original belt drive, a beloved feature among Harley enthusiasts for its minimal maintenance requirements compared to traditional chain drives, this bike's performance has likely been boosted beyond its stock 70 bhp and 70 lb ft of torque. Thanks to the upgraded exhaust and re-jetted carburetor, its output is expected to be slightly higher.
The bike rolls on chrome twisted-spoked wire wheels, with a 19" wheel up front and an 18" wheel at the rear, wrapped in Metzeler M888 Marathon Ultra tires fitted in December 2021. The lowered suspension setup comprises a custom-valved fork with an RSD fork brace, accompanied by dual Worx Billet Tracker shocks affixed to the extended swingarm.
