BMW Motorrad, a prominent European motorcycle manufacturer, continues to experience steady growth in the Asian market, notably in India. During the first nine months of 2023, BMW Motorrad successfully sold a total of 6,778 two-wheelers, reflecting a robust 26% increase compared to the same period in 2022.

To provide context, by October 2023, BMW Motorrad India had already achieved 93% of its total sales from the entire year of 2022. It comes as no surprise that the best-selling model in the lineup is the G 310 series. The G 310 range, which includes the R naked bike, RR supersport, and GS adventure bike, is a result of collaboration with TVS Motor Company, a prominent player in India's motorcycle industry.

During the first half of 2023, BMW Motorrad successfully sold 4,667 motorcycles, a remarkable 50% increase over the same period in 2022, establishing a new sales record for the company. Furthermore, from July to September, BMW sold an additional 2,111 two-wheelers, bringing the total to 6,778 motorcycles sold in the Indian market as of September 2023. Notably, on October 6, 2023, BMW Motorrad India celebrated the production of its 150,000th G 310 motorcycle, marking a decade of partnership with TVS Motor Company.

As mentioned earlier, it is not surprising that BMW's G 310 range is highly popular in India, given their affordability and practicality in the Indian context. However, the premium segment has also seen significant growth. Specifically, BMW's completely built-up (CBU) units experienced a remarkable 36% year-on-year growth, with the BMW GS series of motorcycles, in particular, gaining significant popularity.

The introduction of high-end, performance-oriented motorcycles like the BMW S 1000 RR, M 1000 RR, and M 1000 R in the Indian market aims to attract affluent enthusiasts.

In total, BMW Motorrad India contributed 4.11% to BMW Motorrad's global sales of 164,908 units from January to September 2023. This underscores the potential of the Indian market, not only in the entry-level segment but also in the premium market. As 2023 progresses, it is anticipated that BMW Motorrad India will surpass the 10,000 units sold milestone.
