Fitness

Let’s talk about it; and I don’t mean “fitness taco in my mouth!” ?
Riding performance is no doubt directly related to fitness level. Flexibility, strength and endurance all come into play, plus we use muscles differently than every day activities.
Personally, I’ve found yoga and roller skating to be both fun and very beneficial. I know cycling/mountain biking is common among riders....

What are other activities/exercises have you found directly help your riding? Please be as specific as possible. (Sexual activities needn’t be listed, we know those)

  • Core exercises help a bunch. That doesn't mean just the visible abs, core muscles are all the muscles surrounding the spine at our midsection. From leaning into curves, bracing our posture going into strong headwinds, and having to pick up our motorcycle when things go sideways, core strength is critical. ???

NewOrderfan80salldayeveryday, I agree. I think lower back is an area often neglected in both strength and flexibility.

      • Boobs, I concur. That would then also include flexible hamstrings.

NewOrderfan80salldayeveryday, Right! To be fair I should note here that once I started a daily stretching routine I went from hands maybe shin level to touching the floor in less than a month. It really feels good once you get going.

Firehawk, I gotta admit I’d never heard of Australian pull ups before and had to research. I plan on giving em a try next trip to the gym.

Boobs, I hadn't heard of them either until a few years ago when I got my "Perfect Pullup" bar.

Firehawk, I like slamming the ropes at the gym(not sure the actual name) it’s helped with forearm/wrist strength as well. Riding soft sand takes quite a bit of vibration absorption and they tire quickly. I find the ropes have helped. Plus there’s the satisfaction of slamming them on the floor??

Boobs, I've been wanting to try that exercise for years. I've seen it depicted in tv commercials, but never in person. I always wondered what it was for though.

Firehawk, Shoulders, forearms, wrists, grip. They’re heavier than they look and the handles are straight so a throttle type grip is used. Plus a squatted stance and you got a good all over exercise.

....knuckle push-ups to strengthen the wrists and toughen the knuckles in case of a brawl.
....Having a strong upper body helps with endurance on longer rides on a super bike.
