I have spent several weeks enjoying Hobart and surrounds
I couldn't ride my XS, so I had to rent a BMW K 1200 GT
The first week's base was Kettering, a small village on a protected bay with a marina and many moorings, and the gateway to Bruny Island (via the ferry).
One of my first activities was to walk around the marina and docks and admire the various, interesting and historical vessels.
I visited Hobart and had lunch at the Taste of Malaysia which I highly recommend, authentic, affordable and tasty (and BYO wine). I walked around the Hobart dock area and along the waterfront, which a week later will be full of vessels of all shapes and sizes. I noticed that some of the 'quaintness' of the waterfront has gone; the boat broker and the attendant vessels enticing people to dream of adventure is no longer there - sad, but that's the price of progress I guess.
