Because of the departure of Buriram in the 2020 WorldSBK calendar, Kyalami circuit can get a chance to host the WorldSBK round in March.

Kyalami circuit is the track between Pretoria and carjacking capital of the world Johannesburg. In the past two years enormous work has been done here and now it’s up to scratch.

Previously Kyalami hosted a WorldSBK round in 2010. Despite the fact, that it was a really popular event among teams and riders, the provincial Gauteng government has bought out the contract with the World Superbike owners FG Sport because of an economic downturn.

Buriram track is now scheduled on March 22 in the MotoGP calendar, so WorldSBK needs something to do between Phillip Island at the end of February and the poorly-attended Aragon in April. Plus Laguna looks unlikely to re-book, so a new venue is needed in required in July.

“Step forward Portimao as it makes sense to hold a race when the Algarve is full of people like it is in July and not when it’s empty, like it is in September, and bring Magny-Cours forward a month so it’s less likely to piss down all weekend”.

Also there was some talk about the new Sokol track in Kazakhstan to be included in the WorldSBK schedule, while the San Juan round is now debatable due to the massive economic crisis in the country.
