I messed up on the racetrack and put myself in a neck brace. I was so bored at home, I learnt to code and wrote an android app for riders.
At the end of January I was riding around the Taupo Racetrack in NZ. I entered the chicane way too fast and ran head first into the pit lane tyre wall. I fractured my C2 vertebrae and a few T-spine vertebrae. I was extremely lucky to walk away and recover as I have. Throughout the day my suspension felt horrible and I was constantly tweaking the bike to ride as nice as my previous ZX6 did on the same track. Howevever, it was not to be. Now don't get me wrong. The crash was not to do with my suspension. I completely missed my braking marker and was on another planet. But the stress of my bike feeling horrible, tiredness and poor preparation leading up to the day all contributed to my downfall. Here are some pictures
After my crash I had 3 months in a neck brace sitting at home to contemplate my mistakes. I got sick of feeling sorry for myself so I decided to learn to code. I decided android would be the easiest way to get into it, but what would I make? Even after all I went through, all I could hear in my head was "bike, bike, bike".
I ended up writing an app so it'll make my life easier to troubleshoot my bike at the racetrack or out in the wops (countryside) without internet access. The mobile reception at the racetrack on the day was terrible and I was working off a small paper suspension tuning guide my friend had. At first I was writing the app just for myself, but after some interest, I decided I'd make it a bit nicer for others to use as well. A couple of days ago my app was finally approved on the android store, it's called Motorcycle Suspension and Tyre Pocket Book. I personally HATE using apps with ads and requests for all sorts of permissions (why does a flashlight app need to access my contacts?). So I made my app 100% free of all that rubbish. I'm not in it for the money at all, but I made it paid so I can use the proceeds to help fund more improvements and maybe an iOS version if there's interest.
So I would love it if anyone who downloads the app leaves some feedback on further improvements and additions I could make, maybe you've even found a typo or two! As it is, the app is really basic, like my knowledge of android development (and my riding skills ha ha ha). So anything you guys suggest will only help me and my app get better and better.
Thank you for reading and I hope the guide helps you!
