WHAT TO PACK FOR TRACK DAYS?!
Whether your just starting out or a track god there is always a list either saved in your phone or written down on a scrunched up piece of paper.
There are varying levels of how much to take depending on:
➡️ How serious you are;
➡️ How prepared you want to be and;
➡️ How comfortable you want to be.
At the end of the day, all you NEED is:
➡️ Your bike (that meets scrutineering regulations and;
➡️ Riding gear (that meets the required regulations).
➡️ An open mind and able to control your ego.
After all, you can ride there and ride home.
But, as the track bug bites, and it will, many will begin to expand on that initial list, including purchasing a track bike, trailer/van etc.
I started off with a ute, then as things progressed, moved to a box trailer with a wheel cradle, then to a dual bike trailer setup.
There are pros and cons of type of transport which I will cover in another article.
For example, my list includes:
Administration:
✅ Licence
✅ Race licence (if applicable)
Gear:
✅ Skins
✅ Leathers x 2
✅ Boots
✅ Gloves (both sets)
✅ Back protector/tech air system
✅ Helmet x 2
Other:
✅ Bike keys
✅ Straps
✅ Stands
✅ Fuel jerry x 2
✅ Zip ties
✅ Tyre pressure gauge
✅ Tape (electrician and fabric)
✅ Leads
✅ Power boards
✅ Chargers
✅ Lap timer
✅ Warmers x 2
✅ Chairs
✅ Table
✅ Esky (water, lunch, lollies, electrolytes etc)
✅ Generator
✅ Tools box
✅ Fuel jug
✅ Pump
✅ Ear plugs
✅ Fan
✅ Broom/dustpan & brush
✅ Spares box (bars, rearsets, etc)
✅ Spare tyres (dry)
✅ Spare tyres (wets as required)
✅ Stock exhaust (for noise restrictions)
✅ Chain lube, WD40, Brake Fluid, rags etc
✅ Spares - rearsets, bars, clip ons etc
It is a fair list yes, but they are easily organised and able to be moved quickly and easily in plastic tubs. Get some good quality tubs that will stand the test of time.
The above will allow you to have a very comfortable track day, and allow for a minor mishap to rectified to get back out on track.
You don’t need to go buy it all at once, it has taken me 6-7 years to refine and afford my setup.
As I stated above, it comes down to how prepared/comfortable you want to be.
A final top tips
? You can NEVER have to many straps, wheel braces, rope and or tie downs. They break, get lost, get worn or a fellow rider might need one. Grab an additional set when they are on sale!
? If you borrow something from a fellow rider/team, return it straight away with a ‘thank you’.
So, what’s your list?
