125cc commuting.

After a few years of spending £20+ a week travelling on trains waiting in the cold or stupid heat and never knowing if I would make it to work on time or even home. I got to thinking back to my youth when I had a little 50cc scooter and how much I enjoyed nipping around town and how easy parking etc.. was and can be, it seemed to be a much better way of travelling the 18 miles to work and cheaper than a second car. a few clicks later I found a cheap used piaggio hexagon 125 and for £750 inc insurance and CBT. I was finally on the road no more waiting around no worries about trains been cancelled or delayed the world was perfect. Not overly happy with a huge amount of miles on the clock and a new house move I found myself looking for a new scooter and along came the piaggio xevo. The faster, cleaner and stupid amount of storage this scooter had it all for a daily commute but with the new bike and home came a new job which took me 30 miles away from home and a good 60miles round trip not an issue the bike could handle the 70mph roads as well as the 30mph ones but sadly the build quality of the Italian engine just hated doing 240+ miles a week and also hit a service every 2 months or so and ended up seeing the back of an AA van a few times costing me time and money it also got me a few trips on the train again which cost more per day then petrol all week sadly it had to go which seemed to be an easy move. I moved on to the kawasaki J125 a little lower than the piaggio but just a quick this was a great bike to move on to but and OMG BUT it was a boring ride! reliable but so so so slow at picking up speed I got 6 months out of it after seeing my commute time was an extra 10 mins even if the bike could hold it's own at 70mph getting it there was a long hard slog, quick up to 40mph but 50-60-70 was so long it wasn't worth keeping and so I went and got my piaggio back (eye roll) and back to problems again!! luckily I got a move that got me a bit closer to home but my love for the piaggio had gone. I looked in to what scooters were out there and Honda just kept coming up over and over again so I got an early finish and headed to my local honda dealer and fell in love with the Forza 125, a pure dream more storage than any of the other 3 bikes and with a top box added a weekly shop wasn't a problem with room for treats as well, I could pack in all my work stuff and more it was superb, I have loved going around on the honda and thought after yet another CBT I would take the leap and have now done my test and I'm now about to embrace the world on something bigger and better. 9 years, a good chunk of mileage and a few job changes this is going to be a strange end to my life on a scooter but those days, nights and all weather conditions will never be forgotten nor will those 125cc motorbikes that have been the work horse for many happy times. cheap to run and very enjoyable to sit back on and cruise home with a simple twist and go I can recommend anyone to go out and get them self's out on one if trains and buses are getting too much to take.
