Sakura Cherry Blossom - Baan Khun Chang Khian, Chiang Mai, Thailand ??
Around mid-January, the scenic Hmong Hilltribe village of Baan Khun Chang Khian - high up in Doi Suthep mountain in Chiang Mai, becomes a sea of pink hues, due to the blooming Wild Himalayan cherry blossoms.
During this period tourists (local, national and international), flock to see the pretty Sakura blooms and enjoy countless photo opportunities. This period is also when the village can enjoy some income opportunities, from the sale of fresh produce and handicrafts, and visits to the local cafes and eateries.
Despite Covid-19, there was no shortage of visitors this year and for sure there were smiles all round (behind the masks!)
My video caught the tail end of the blooms, which lasts for around 5 - 7 days only.
There are a few locations within Chiang Mai province (and beyond) where you can view the blossoms but this village is a particularly pretty place to enjoy them, due to the working traditional Hmong people and the scenic views.
There is no entry fee for visiting the village, but it is a good time to buy some local produce. You can visit via your own mode of transport, hire a tour agent or take a taxi truck to and from the village.
