The fabulous R4010 in Northern Thailand (and more)
Northern Thailand has some of the most spectacular roads on offer, giving us the opportunity to ride on mountain roads with fabulous mountain vistas.
Many of these routes are well-known and well-documented, and then there are some lesser-known beauties, lurking in the northern territory. The 4010 is one of them, and one of the steepest B road rides in the region. (I am still currently trying to work out how best to record the steepest drop in the road. It rained hard at one point on this ride, and so I wasn't able to film all that I wanted.)
This road has two parts. A wide sweeping area of great quality road, and a small mountain turn-off that leads to the steepest area, with fabulous views. This section is not often used, so exercise caution if riding it. Leaves and rain make sections slippery, but it is stunning. Additionally, I noticed that some of the views were obscured due to the lush greenery sprouting up all around (last time I rode this route was back in March last year, and the area was dry and the views clear. Trip report here: https://bit.ly/3fMt20P ). Additionally, it is best to ride this road from East to West (which I did on my first ride, but on this ride I went West to East). East to West offers the best views.
When riding to the 4010, make sure to try add in the stunning 1024 (shown in the video) and also the absolutely beautiful 1216 mountain road, which (unlike the 4010), has food stops and accommodation (and includes Khun Sathan National Park).
More info on this fabulous loop, including great places to stop..and additionally info on the nearby Sirikit Dam, where you and your bike can ferry across the water is on my website (motogirlthailand.com)
