CVMG - Lifetime Member Award
Every now and then a remarkable member of the CVMG is nominated by his or her peers for a Lifetime Member Award. We were honoured to recognise Mr John Alton at this year's Rally. If you haven't met John, here is some of the story of this remarkable man.
Over fifty years ago, when the CVMG was born, John was one of its original members, starting with the Toronto section, then Hamilton-Niagara, and finally settling in - and founding - the Grand River section.
As a teenager John rode a James two-stroke and soon graduated to BSAs, which he's been riding ever since. Being in his 80s doesn't slow him down nowadays; he still averages over 25,000km a year on his bikes!
A restorer extraordinaire, John specialises in BSA B31 - B33 singles as well as BSA B44 - B50 unit singles. He ran the original Ontario BSA Club throughout the 70s and 80s and is a proud member of the BSA Owners Club today.
An active member of the Grand River section, John has been treasurer since its inception and organises regular group rides.
What is most notable about John and makes him especially deserving of this award, is that his knowledge and expertise in restoring and working on motorcycles is not something he keeps to himself. John is only too willing to help others with their restoration projects and challenges. He has restored and rebuilt over 200 motorcycles in his career and continues to assist other enthusiasts. This is the spirit the CVMG embodies, and this is what will keep our wonderful group rolling for years to come.
Thank you, John, for being such a knowledgeable, generous, and dedicated member of our humble group. This lifetime member award feels like the least we can do to thank you for all you've done!
