Hi there, this is Bambi from Germany.
Erum, a fellow Tiger-Trailster, pointed me to this forum because somebody here is starting to build an off-road-bike based on a Meriden-Twin. As I am still the proud owner of a 1981 Tiger Trail from new, I surely can lend a helping hand.
As said, I got mine in summer 1981 and ever since that time it's been a great bike for me. I've clocked up 90.000 km's (about 60.000 miles) on it, with 2 engine-rebuilds and sadly with the actual need for a third. The seats of the main-bearings on the crankshaft are worn. I got me a second-hand crankshaft some time ago, but still have to decide, what's more to renew and how to save enough money for the rebuild. There are a few more bikes in the barn, a Suzuki DR 750 and 2 GN 400, MZ TS 150, 250 and an off-road GS 250 (a parts-collection from 1972 - 76 with a dry-clutch engine) plus a 7-gear Hercules GS 175. Further, there is a 1972 Triumph Bonneville 650, which we bought as a basket-case-job for my wife Iris and that turned into the biggest mess of engine-internals that I've ever seen in my life.
Further on, I still drive a small team of 3 Huskies. In former times, I had a team of 6 and later 4 dogs. Iris and me love progressive rock as it's been played by Genesis in their young days, Pink Floyd, Yes and nowadays IQ, Porcupine Tree, Dreamtheater, Enchant and so many more - mostly unknown - bands.
