On the Saturday of the BSA Club de France rally
We had a long run out through lovely countryside and picturesque villages. People were waving at the 40 or so bikes, as the balade passed through. A small museum, dedicated to generating electricity, opened especially, on the day for us. After a lovely picnic, inside what I believe was the old wash house now turned into a canteen, the very knowledgeable, gregarious volunteers proudly showed us through generations of machines, even firing up a few. After we had finished, those of us who didn’t want to amble back took a fast ride on major roads, behind the route marshalls, to display our bikes in front of the Mairie in Ferté Vidame, the town where our campsite was. The Mairie was conveniently situated next to a lovely bar, where we imbided the local brew and discussed the run out. A guy dressed in an old police uniform rode up on a very rare BFG 1300, also in police livery. The evening consisted of a celebratory glass of wine, followed by an excellent meal, while many danced to a blues band, late into the night. Breakfast was traditional french, but also available, were hot egg bacon and sausages.
