Adventures of YB125 in Chile, part 13
We are going further!
The edge of the Northern Ice Shield, and in combination, is the same national park of the San Rafael Lagoon. Very tasty:
Carreter Austral is a road of great views on glaciers. A true parade of a variety of ice blocks.
On a motorcycle it is really good to travel together. You can stop wherever you want, turn wherever you want. It is more convenient for the passenger to take photographs, advise the road, looking at the map.
Caleta Tortel, perhaps one of the most unusual villages in Chile.
The time here is not exactly stopped, it's supposedly not here. There is only one point of reference - Saturday. Every Saturday in this bay there is a ferry connecting Yungai with Puerto Natales. The same ferry that is the connecting link between 11 and 12 regions, and you can pass it in order to get to the southern tip of Chile, only if you go to Argentina, which we will do afterwards.
Tickets for this ferry can be bought on the Internet or in the ticket Tortel. It is possible to get on the ferry here, only if you are a pedestrian (well, or a bicyclist), otherwise you need to travel about 50 km to the next port - Yungai, as only there it is possible to load transport (motorcycle or car).
We decided to learn more about tickets because of curiosity than from the intention to use the ferry, because this pleasure is really expensive, but these walks through a sleepy village, in which even the air seems to be standing in one place, will be remembered for a long time ...
In the gloomy days, the stoves are heated around the clock, and from that, gray smoke pours up the village. The gas is used only for the shower (and not always), and people even cook on wood stoves. The lower tiers of the village are adorned with announcements about the tsunami threat, but right there, almost every staircase is a rescue route, the main thing is to be able to run fast through narrow and steep wooden staircases.
Almost the whole Patagonia is dotted with a network of small airfields. Some are gates to remote corners of national parks, others create access to private possessions, others belong to military bases. There are a great number of airplanes and helicopters. Sometimes, right at our camping a private airplane landed and unloaded about 15 brutal men, in equipment, in special clothes and sunglasses.
Woodpeckers!!! They are very big, noisy and funny!
When Patagonia is in the rain and mountains around can not be seen at all, you can look under your feet. Wherever you go, there is always a crazy, stunning collection of mosses and lichens under your feet.
The deepest lake in South America is Lake O'Higgins. It was exactly this lake where we finished the run on the highway number 7 or Carretere Austral. Probably, this is the first legendary road on our way, which we passed kilometer per kilometer, enjoying every day.
In the last parts, we'll finish the journey through Chile, visiting the Torres Del Peine National Park and Tierra del Fuego, visiting the royal penguins. Stay with us!!!
