It’s a complicated story. The 28-year-old French rider Maxime Berger had attempted suicide, and now he is in hospital, told us the latest news from the German edition Speedweek. Gino Rea, a friend of the rider, has stated on Twitter that Berger is in a coma.61898759b18ee6f1134.jpg

There have been a lot of tragedies in motorsport this year. Nicky Hayden, Anthony Delhalle, Adrien Protat, Steven Lenoir have died. Except Nicky, the others were French riders.

Berger was admitted to a hospital in Dijon with severe injuries. His condition was described as critical. Eurosport commentator Remy Tissier visited the hospital and confirmed that Berger is still alive, but his chances to recover are extremely small.

Maxime Berger started his career in 2005, when he tested a 250cc machine for Dieter Stappert. In 2010 he went on to compete for the Supercup 1000 for Ten Kate’s Junior team. For 2011 and 2012 he raced for Supersonic, Red Devils Roma and the Effenbert team in Superbike World Cup.

Berger had prospects in motorcycle races, but everything turned out a little bit strange. He has won titles with Superstock 1000 European Championship, Superstock FIM Cup with Yamaha. However, in the Superbike World Championship his opportunities started to run out after he got a lot of injuries, and he entered the Endurance World Championship; but Berger couldn’t repeat his previous successes. Then he stepped away from racing and took a job as a cook in Dijon. No one knows why a young man attempted suicide. Apparently, it could be a depression, although there is no official information. Only guesses, speculations and assumptions.97503859b18f132622e.jpg

The most famous incident with Maxime Berger was when he lost a wheel in the Superbike.
