The editorial staff of the Motorrad magazine sent its request to the German headquarters of Ducati in Cologne. It was made to explain why Ducati always uprates the data of its technique in advertising. And in general is this practice permitted?

Ducati attracts potential buyers by data, which never match with the real one. For example, the Multistrada 1200 was announced to have 117.7 kW, but in reality it only has 112 kW.

As a result, the answer came from the headquarters, in which Ducati representative regrets the misunderstanding and promises not to cheat its clients again.

"In order to avoid misunderstandings from now on, we commit ourselves to use only the data specified in the associated documentation in advertising or press releases."

Ducati representatives explained that their inflated data were obtained by other methods, different from those prescribed by law. What are these methods, they did not explain.

As an example we can also take Panigale 1299 (2014). Initially, there was only one data: 150.8 kW 205 PS. And then 145 kW 197.2 PS appeared in the papers of the selling bikes. It is approximately 4% less than stated in the advertisement.

The editorial staff of the Motorrad magazine conducted its own tests, similar to the required by law and received 196.5 PS.

Munich lawyer Torsten Hülsken, who is one of the heads of the law firm "Center for Protection from Unfair Competition," said "In our view, such actions are a kind of a classic scam" and added "misleading data on properties and characteristics are prohibited, especially in advertising."

What can we say? When it comes to money - conscience is not appropriate.
