Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso led in the second practice session at the French Grand Prix at Le Mans.
As soon as ‘DesmoDovi’(between the two Friday sessions) announced that he will stay at the Ducati Team in 2019 and 2020, Andrea became the winner of FP2, leading Marc Marquez. Also Dovizioso surprised everyone with beating Jorge Lorenzo's qualifying record from 2016 by 0.004s. He finished the day with a best effort of 1m31.936s. Marquez took the second position, 0.168s off the leader’s pace.
The top five was completed with Yamaha riders. Valentino Rossi ended the day P3 overall with a lap of 1'32.179. His teammate Maverick Vinales ended in fourth, though the Spaniard completed the top three in FP1.
The home hero, Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) was fifth, as well as in FP1.
Jack Miller (Ducati) was sixth. The Australian looked really good with a lap of 1'32.302 after ending FP1 in P12. Pol Espargaro showed a great pace on KTM (1'32.414), despite his early crash. As a result, he finished the day seventh quickest.
Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) ended eighth, using a new aerodynamic fairing in FP2. Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) impressed everyone with his P9. Let’s remind, that he finished the morning session in the 14th position. Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) completed the top ten (1'32.576), 0.640 behind the pace of Dovizioso. The Spaniard dropped two positions in the afternoon in comparison with FP1.
Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) crashed on his final lap, being inside the top three for most of this session, and ended in P11. Fortunately, the rider is ok.
