Let's go play in the dirt.
2021 has arrived, and manufacturers have armed their respective dirt-bike models with plenty of updates to keep them competitive in an über aggressive segment.
From new models, tuned engines, new frames, and a few suspension tweaks, many models have received their share of upgrades. We have compiled seven new and/or updated off-road toys in this article to keep you up-to-date in the dirt-bike universe.
2021 Beta 300 RX
The Beta 300 RX is completely new for 2021 and is enduro 300 RR's competition. The RX gets a frame specifically developed for the dirt track, mounted on a fully movable KYB fork and Sachs shock.
The 293cc thumper is similar to RR but tweaked a bit to meet the rider's motocross requirements. It comes with a Brembo hydraulic clutch and a six-speed transmission. It also sports two power modes, an electric starter, an Arrow muffler, a bigger carburetor, and premix lubrication instead of oil injection.
2021 KTM 450 SX-F
The SX flagship receives the most important upgrades for this year. The changes include a revised piston, crankshaft, engine casing, rocker arms, and shift locker. KTM claims that these changes make the bike more compact and reliable. Similar to the entry-level 250 SX-F and 350 SX-F, the 450 is now myKTM app compatible. This will let the riders tune their bike via their smartphone.
2021 Husqvarna TC Lineup
The two-stroke TC Huskys range from 50-200cc. The entire segment received a new WP XACT front fork with smaller cartridges and outfitted with a brand-new mid-valve damping system. This would improve comfort during landing. For a better and more "refined" suspension response at the back, the WP XACT shock sports low-friction linkage seals.
2021 Yamaha YZ250F
Improving mid-end torque is a common theme for 2021. At Yamaha, the YZ250F is the lucky winner of this year's series of updates. New inclusions/changes to the machine include a new cylinder head, the entire intake system redesigned, improved camshaft, shift cam, transmission, clutch, water pump, impeller, and ECU.
These new inclusions/changes power the bike with more mid to high-end pull and a higher peak output while maintaining its low-end specs.
This is not it. The chassis, engine mounts, suspension, brake hardware, triple clamp, and handlebar mount have been included. You call these an update; we call it a full overhaul.
2021 Kawasaki KX450 and KX450XC
The 450 also receives its share of upgrades. It features a new Renthal fat bar, a coned disk-spring hydraulic clutch, larger-diameter clutch plates, and improved friction material. Like the 250, the 450 also gets a factory-standard Renthal Fatbar handlebar.
Like the 250, the XK flagship receives an XC variant with an off-road optimized engine and suspension setup. The trim-specific brake components, 21- and 18-inch wheels clad in Dunlop GEOMAX AT81 tires, a skid plate, and a kickstand are the other inclusions.
2021 Honda CRF450R
Honda's flagship motocrosser and its RX RWE counterparts got a list of essential upgrades. The most notable change is the redesigned, more compact twin-spar aluminum frame coupled with a new swingarm that makes 450 a lighter, stiffer bike with enhanced ground clearance.
The changes inside the frame include a redesigned throttle body, a smaller fuel pump, a bigger airbox, a magnesium cylinder head, a smaller clutch pull, and a new single exhaust. Owing to the bigger airbox, Honda claims more low- to mid-range power on its 450 models.
2021 KTM 125 and 150 SX
The 2021 KTM 125SX gets a glistening set of WP XACT suspension front and back with a more solid factory set up. KTM is also calling the bike "fresh piston and clutch internals," though the company is refraining from getting into details.
Dunlop is KTM's rubber choice for 2021 and offers the SX with a set of GEOMAX MX33.
Wrapping Up
2021 is bringing crazy dirt bike upgrades from almost all brands. Apart from the bikes discussed in this article, many helmet upgrades are also available, making them lighter, stronger, and aesthetically appealing.
