Italian boutique bike manufacturer is in a weird space these days. After releasing the KB4 and KB4 RC at EICMA last year, which were normal enough by Bimota’s standards, they left the world of sleek street bikes behind at this year’s show, showing off a big-bore dirt bike, the BX450. And now, we see that they’re also working on a new adventure bike, with clever adjustable suspension. See below:
That bike looks an awful lot like the project we heard about last December, an “adventure sports” motorcycle with long-travel suspension, but aimed at street riding. Back then we told you:
Marconi said Bimota is developing a new machine based around a Tesi chassis—that is, with hub-centric steering. He said Bimota had previously focused on sportbikes, but now plans on moving out into other segments, including adventure bikes and tourers. From his comments, we’d expect to see the new bike unveiled at the 2022 EICMA show.
Another Bimota insider told MCN the new bike would be based around the supercharged Kawasaki H2 SX inline four, which should make just under 200 horsepower in its Euro5-legal configuration.
Remember, Bimota is now part-owned by Kawasaki, so component supply shouldn’t be a problem anymore, unlike past years, where Bimota simply couldn’t buy the engines it needed. The global supply chain may be slowed down greatly, but it’s not completely cut off.
While we haven’t seen many details on this project, we do know it’s called the Tera (as seen in that video), and Bimota seems to think of it as a tourer. Does that mean an adventure tourer, like Kawasaki’s Versys 1000? The lines are blurring between sport tourers and the new “adventure sports” segment, and we’d expect to see the bike in that space somewhere.
