Harley-Davidson's Pan America models selling like hotcakes
Dealers are upbeat about the Pan America for two reasons: They say it’s a great product and the retail price of about $17,000 for a base model is very competitive with motorcycles in the adventure-touring category.
Some dealerships are requiring deposits and others established waiting lists. Essentially as dealers receive a Pan America, they already have a customer ready to buy it.
The Pan America is designed to lead Harley-Davidson’s expansion beyond heavyweight-sized touring motorcycles, which is a category Harley leads in the United States. The Pan America runs on Harley’s all-new Revolution Max 150-horsepower, 1250-cc engine.
Chairman, president and CEO Jochen Zeitz said during the February unveiling of the Pan America that it’s the first adventure-touring motorcycle made in America — at least since Harley’s early models in the pre-World War II days of dirt roads.
