  Managed to get the sludge trap open after liberal application of heat and using a hand held impact driver. Slight delay until I realised that I was actually driving it deeper at one point!

Sludge trap has been cleaned but TBH having seen some of the examples online this looked to be fairly clean with little real accumulation of gunge. I'm still taking the tube out but have stalled as I don't have a magic Lunmad tent peg nor do I have a reamer or thread cutter so I can hoik the pipe out.

I've just seen a metal skewer in the kitchen that might be ideal with a small bend in the end but have to wait until the kitchen is clear and the in-laws have crawled back under their rock.
