it's a tough one that, I have both and use both for long trips. there is something rather romantic about tent touring on a cruiser with a few good mates but sometimes a lighter more nimble touring bike can make tighter more remote mountain routes more accessible and a little less tiring on longer days.
if you're budget suits, take a visit to Triumph and do some test rides, the Bonneville Speedmaster is a fantastic cruiser, loads of torque, super comfortable and good looking too. then try the new Tiger sport, it might suit your sportier background and it's not as tall as other adventure bikes on the market.
