FAILBLOG: No stator ouput!

Battery is dead due to not being charged by stator. looks like I have a short on 2 of the 3 wires coming out of the stator. my DIY gasket job worked out except when I put it all back together it was dark so I was using a head lamp. While trying to hold clutch and starter assemblies and in place to line up and remount the engine side casing it appears i got the stator wires pinched. When I tightened it all down it bit into the wires and grounded out.
So here we go again: drained the oil, side casing off. Same crappy bike, same crappy work conditions but it doesn't get much more legit than this lowbrow method :) Starting to get to know this bike better now!
