Oils sump change

So, at the beginning of the week I had an oil leak from the sump Plug, this came about as I wanted to do an oil and filter change and the banana who had it before me had tightened the sump nut tighter than a ducks backside!

So the threads were worn away,
So I was going to attempt a helicoil but I was advised best to just change the sump pan.

Ordered the parts and set to work. Now I'm a novice, learning as I go with this bike, it wasn't very expensive and working on it is good because unlike a car you can pretty much see everything your doing.

First advice from the manual... Remove exhaust.. After looking at the front tof the bike and the downpipes, rusty, dirty, look like they've never been changed and I haven't got any new bolts I thought... Nope, not attempting to get those bad boys off.

So I undone the centre screw and rear of the exhaust.
Now some of the bolts were in marvellous places restricted by downpipes and the benefit of having slim fingers I could just about get them all off.

Drop the pan and then cross my fingers I can slide the pan out to the left of the bike with a little pressure on the exhaust..
One piece holding the thing in place and not free, anyway managed to eventually after a lot of swearing get it off.

Success!!

Then set about getting it back together, messy job with oil dropping from every orophess and even managed to get it in my hair while under the bike...... Lovely!

So sump time taken to get it off.... 2hrs

Then filtering the new/old oil that's done about 10 mile through a rag... Good old YouTube!

Time getting back on and oil fill.... 1hr.

Lol.... So much easier when you know how it goes on.

Good day with the bike, ran it for about 25 mins to make sure there's no leaks and it all looks good so, happy days.. Can hopefully get the beast out on the road again now.

Just to add to this, I spent about an hour looking at what to do and spraying wd-40 on the bolts and about an hour dancing to Rob zombie and moshing around the garden!

Replace the washer on sump plug. It is a “crush washer”. Only one use. It crushes and seals and locks. If no washer then banana lost it. They do exist.

Robby Mac, The washer was replaced the, the sump plug will tighten by hand and then it will loosen off its own accord when tweaker with the torque wrench to the settings. That's why it's been changed
