Today's Question

  Hello

It's a miserable dank and wet afternoon and so I'm in the man cave pondering on things.

Today I'm about to split the cranks having finally pulled all the gears and drive sprockets off the cams and crank.

As I'm working around the engine and comparing with the parts drawings I've come across a puzzle. Behind the clutch basket and immediately above the front sprocket 'hatch' is a panel held in place with a cross screw and an odd shaped pillar bolt. It's concealing the crankcase breather and has an oil pipe feeding to the crankcase sprocket.

It's not in my parts catalogue....

OK - so my question is - what the heck is it? I would like to remove and clean up behind it so I'm wondering - do I need to keep it if I'm going for a belt drive and don't absolutely need oil in this part of the engine??

Hope the weather is better with you wherever you are.

Cheers
