The first Ducati electric bike production isn’t far away, but we don’t know when exactly.
Currently almost every manufacturer has tried one of the aspects of an exciting world of electric motorcycles, for instant produced their own e-bike, introduced concepts or unveiled a future plan with electrification. But not all brands have decided to leave gas-powered bikes, and Ducati is one of them, or at least we thought so. In fact, the motorcycle brand has revealed that we could get its electric model much sooner than we expect it.
The future is electric, and “the first Ducati electric bike production isn’t far away”, as Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali said during the podium celebrations of the Motostudent racing event last weekend at the Aragon racetrack in Spain. The University of Bologna’sUniBo rookie team, supported by the Ducati Foundation, built the recent electric race bike as a part of an evening at the University and took the third place in the electric class competition.
However, a “soon” definition is all we have at the moment, as Ducati’s big boss Domenicalididn’t expand on the subject of an upcoming e-Ducati.Nevertheless, an electric Ducati isn’t a new concept. There were a few projects, which bring “Ducati” and “electric” terms together: a converted electric, Zero FX powertrain-propelled Hypermotard in Thailand, the Ducati Zero concept designed by a student of the Milan Polytechnic School of Design in collaboration with the brand. So Ducati has already shown us its interest in the technology.
However, the question remains: what type of bike could Ducati be electrifying? Maybe the company will opt for a performance-oriented sportbike. Or it would choose the small-displacement category. Let’s try to guess. What wouldthe first electric Ducati look like?
