This motorcycle was expertly restored by former USA Maico rider, Dave Coupe'
Highlights:
- 1981 Maico 490 Mega 2
- Considered by many magazine test riders as one of, if not the best open class motocross bike ever made
- Power, handling and overall balance was near perfect
- Maico sold ever one they could manufacture and then in 1982 they release the Alpha (single shock) model which was as big a failure as the Mega 2 was a success
- Hard to believe that a company could get it so right one year and so wrong the next but it is true
- 1982 signaled the beginning of the end for Maico as they never recovered as a company from the horrible press in '82, which leaves the '81 as the best Maico, if not the best Open bike ever
- The motorcycle was sold on Mecum
