What was once just a futuristic prototype dream bike from Newron Motors is now becoming a reality. The French company is now accepting a limited number of pre-orders for the Newron EV-1 wood panel electric motorcycle.
This motorcycle looks like no other bike you have ever seen. When the company unveiled the prototype of this bike in 2019, many were awed by its unique design but also doubted whether any production models would ever be available.
Newron dubs the EV-1 as the “first electric power cruiser,” which has an exoskeleton chassis that links the front and rear ends through a structural battery. This wild design feature reminds me of the barrel of a Gatling gun. The low seat height and chopped out front end put the rider in a comfortable position, and high-end suspensions assure for a comfortable ride.
Powering this beautiful beast will be an advanced 75 kW PMAC engine, providing 240 Nm of torque. This propels the Newron EV-1 down the road in 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 3 seconds, and an electronically controlled top speed of just under 137 mph (220km/h). Maximum torque is available from a standstill position.
The Battery Pack on the EV-1 is designed for easy maintenance, and upgrades that will last right along with the bike. It has an impressive city range of up to 186 miles (300 km) and on the highway for about 136 miles (220 km). If you’re charging the bike at home overnight the standard 3 kWh onboard charger will charge it up in around 5 hours. However, a CCS fast charging plug can recharge the battery to 80% in around 40 minutes from a DC charge station.
The Newron EV-1 comes with a multi-level regenerative ABS braking system from Beringer, using dual 320mm disks and 4 pot radial calipers.
This electric motorcycle comes equipped with onboard navigation through GPS, WiFi connectivity, and Bluetooth to easily connect the rider through their smartphone. Newron also plans to implement an App connecting riders who can share ride details. The app will also allow the rider to set riding specifications from driving mode to the battery level.
For people who have some extra money and are interested in owning a Newron EV-1 the price tag is just over $65,000 (€60,000) and the deposit is a refundable €2,000, with production expected to be finished in 2021.
