Modern naked bikes and sportbikes are certainly sleek and sexy, but they usually lack one major feature: carrying capacity. If you’re riding a Ducati Panigale V4 you may have no need for accessories, but everyday naked sportbikes are a lot more practical and versatile these days. For the urban rider who enjoys an escape from the city on the weekend, a pair of small panniers can be invaluable.

Spanish gear and luggage brand Shad listened to your plight and recently introduced the E48SR exclusively in favor of nude and sportbike models. Before attaching the rigid shell E48SR bag to its tail section, however, customers must also purchase Shad’s SBH SR mounting system. Fortunately, the rack bolts to the underside of the motorcycle’s tail unit, preserving the streamlined look that makes roadsters and supersports so attractive.

Shad builds the side case from durable ABS, which offers a carrying capacity of up to 7.7 pounds (15.4 pounds as a pair) and 15 liters (30 liters as a pair). The zip enclosure, inner waterproof bag, and outer material seal out water, and a customizable combination locking mechanism helps keep thieves out, too.

On the interior, compression straps ensure larger items stay in place during travel while mesh inner pockets accommodate smaller personal items. Measuring 17.7 inches in length, 11.4 inches in height and 10.6 inches in depth, the bag should hold enough luggage for a weekend trip.

Once back in town, the user can easily dismantle the cases with the solid but lightweight polyamide and fiberglass anchoring system. The aft side of each bag has reflective panels for better visibility at night that doubles as a carry handle when the rider unloads. The simple mounting and locking mechanism also makes loading and unloading cases an easy endeavor.

At €339 ($362 USD), the Shad E48SR Backpack is a reasonable price for such a functional upgrade. Unfortunately, Shad does not list which naked and sportbike models the E48SR system fits, but the brochure uses the 2021 Yamaha MT-09 as a model.
